Sunday, May 17 at 2 pm.
Peninsula School of Performing Arts, under the direction of Tita Boulger, is pleased to present a full-length, pre-professional production of Coppelia, “The Doll with the Enamel Eyes”. This comedic ballet combines the romance between Swanilda and Franz with the story of the dollmaker, Dr. Coppelius, whose greatest desire is to create a doll with a soul.
Based on a European folk tale, Dr. Coppelius creates the life-like doll, Coppelia, and puts her in his second story window. Franz thinks she is real and falls in love with her. Swanilda and her friends reveal the truth when they venture into the dollmaker’s shop, creating chaos. In Act III, the lovers reconcile and the town celebrates their marriage with the final grand divertissements.
Guest artist, Mate Szentes, will dance the role of Franz, and Dr. Coppelius will be portrayed by guest artist, Kevin Donville. Swanilda will be danced by Elodie Paterson and Leah Yap. The cast is rounded out by additional guest artists and the students of PSPA.
Each evening will begin with 20-30 minutes of performances by PSPA’s youngest dancers. This is a family ballet, with lots of fun for all ages.
