Artist's Bio:

Flavia Zuniga-West is an artist who explores identity, particularly the often ephemeral webs of gender, class, and race. She utilizes text and simple materials to engage in conversations of the quotidian, the buried, and the forgotten. Her materials and text interrogate the beauty myth while exploring the history of women of color, drawing connections between common colloquialisms, exoticism, and feminism. She hopes that by celebrating overlooked identities, other young women will feel empowered, cherished, and seen, not as objectives but as active and positive agents in the world.

Flavia Zuniga-West was born in Los Angeles and currently lives and teaches there. She is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with her BFA in Fiber and Material Studies and New York University with her Masters in Museum Studies.
